Philipp Schäfer Bass

Vita

I was born in 1997 in Worms, Germany, into a musical family.
My grandfather was a conductor and trumpet player in various music clubs, my father is a passionate drummer, therefore music was already present from birth.
He took me to his rehearsals and performances as a small child, so I got to know the world of music very early.

I soon started playing the drums myself, then the guitar at the age of 6. But both did not last very long. It wasn’t until I saw a live DVD of Phil Collins with Leland Sklar on bass that it became clear to me: I want to make music again, and I want to play the bass! The powerful, deep sound and the look (either of the bass or Leland Sklar, I don’t know exactly 😉 ) captivated me.

So at the age of 12 I took my first lessons, the ball started rolling… I started playing in school bands and consolidating my passion until one day there was no doubt for me that I wanted to become a professional musician. I took lessons with various bass players, including Markus Vieweg and Umbo Umschaden, to get new input, joined bands, and played everything I could get my hands on.

Finally, in October 2017, I started studying bass at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne under Marius Goldhammer, which I successfully completed in September 2021. In all that time I was allowed to gain a lot of experience with a wide variety of bands and acts. Today I can proudly say that my dream has come true. I am a professional musician and I wouldn’t trade that for anything in the world.
